What is an inoculant?
An inoculant is a micro-organism that is applied to the soil or plants to improve health and productivity. Inoculants must be applied before or during seeding.
Haylage & Silage Inoculants
Silage inoculants are additives that contain bacteria that help crops ferment in silos. They improve fermentation, dry matter recovery, and animal performance. Inoculants can also prevent undesirable microbes from using up protein and energy from the forage.
Soil Inoculants
Soil biology plays an important part in crop production. Inoculants are used for a variety of reasons, such as adding organisms that have beneficial effects. For example, bacteria like rhizobia, forms a mutually beneficial relationship with host plants, like legumes. The plant feeds it carbon through photosynthesis and gives it a home, the bacteria in return can “fix” atmospheric nitrogen into a form the plant can use.
Seed Inoculants
A seed inoculant is a commercially prepared bacteria that is applied to seeds before planting. The bacteria help plants “fix” nitrogen from the air and improve plant health. Inoculating legume seeds like peas, beans, and clover is the best way to maximize crop harvests.
We offer inoculants for your haylage and silage needs.
- Silosolve: A bacterial inoculant intended for the control of fermentation and micro-organisms responsible for the deterioration of silage.
- BioMax: A lactic acid-producing inoculant used to improve fermentation and reduce spoilage organisms in forage. It is a science-based, research-proven inoculant with strain technology to drive fermentation.
