Grain Procurement and Compliance and Risk Manager

Munson Lakes Nutrition LLC is a growing Animal Food manufacturing company, and we need a Grain Procurement and Compliance & Risk Manager (CRM) to work closely with the CEO/GM. With your experience and talents, you’ll be able to lead our team of high-performing professionals to be efficient, productive, and effective. Our ideal candidate has extensive experience within the industry, perhaps having worked your way up through the ranks to your role as an Agriculture Leader. We believe this trajectory helps develop a unique mix of business and management expertise, plus proficiency with the practices, policies, and procedures of the agriculture industry. We have our eye out for a CRM with strong leadership skills and the ability to approach business from a creative point of view. This person must be able to think quickly and react to an ever-changing environment and understand futures and flat markets. Also, maintaining all government Licenses and Certifications to be updated before expiring.
Objectives of this Role in no particular order:
- Collaborate with the General Manger on all operations pertaining to Government Compliance, Safety, Grain Procurement, Inventory, and establishing minimal Risk.
- Position could involve the responsibility of pricing, maintaining and monitoring feed and grain inventories to meet production and customer demand. Sales and Marketing, grain handling and storage, pricing, hedging, merchandising and direct supervision of all grain related functions of the company that may have direct P & L implications.
- Overseeing company operations of direct report employee’s productivity, building a highly inclusive culture ensuring team members thrive.
- Sets grain prices in accordance with the guidelines established by the GM.
- Establishes least cost/competitive daily/12 month rolling corn bids to meet feed milling needs.
- Coordinates with feed staff on grain for feed manufacturing and retail.
- Builds relationships with farmers and other sellers. Solicits and receives calls from numerous corn grain customers. Negotiates contracts. Coordinates grain deliveries. Completes or provides directions for incoming and outgoing grain and ingredient scale tickets.
- Waits on grain customers in a courteous manner and assists with Counter sales.
- Provide directions for receiving, inspection, and grading of incoming corn. Provide directions for bin filling, emptying, movement and aeration of corn.
- Oversight of sampling and testing grain appropriately for all incoming and outgoing grain shipments.
- Provides direction for settlement/payment for all corn purchases.
- Closely monitors the CME daily price trends.
- Buys, sells, rolls CME futures contracts to manage risk and establish prices for current and future corn contracts.
- Adhere to company, federal, state, and local business requirements, enforcing compliance and acting when necessary.
- Knowledge of grain trading policies and current market trends. Closely monitor private & grain industry news & events to stay current with price movements. Reviews all incoming reports, market information, and market news.
- Maintains & updates corn bids on company web site. Monitors bids from local competitions.
- Computes future end user feed and corn customers cost and place hedges accordingly.
- Communicate frequently with Company Hedge Broker.
- Maintain Daily Hedging Report on hedging and contracts.
- Bin grain to maintain condition and efficiently use storage facilities.
- Assists in maintaining clean conditions at facilities.
- Ensure and help with effective recruiting, onboarding, professional development, performance management, and retention.
- Purchase Bulk and bag feed ingredients from multiple sources at best cost price in accordance with our FLM agreement with Land O’ Lakes Purina.
- Maintains & monitors physical inventories to meet production requirements.
- Determine margins required for profitability within goals.
- Continue to look for new ways to improve margins.
- Review and complies ingredient prices to complete spreadsheets for downloading to Company accounting program.
- Process and completes weekly wholesale/retail pricing sheets.
Daily and Monthly Responsibilities
- Analyze internal operations and identify areas of process enhancement.
- Develop actionable business strategies and plans that ensure alignment with short-term and long-term objectives developed in tandem with the GM/CEO.
- Work with operations, HR, and accounting, and the GM/CEO on sales management to budget for sufficient investment capital to achieve growth targets over the near term.
- Maintain and build trusted relationships with key customers, clients, partners, and stakeholders
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or trade school in Ag business administration preferred but not required.
- 5+ years’ experience in Agriculture preferred.
- CDL License preferred but not required.
- Certificates and Series Licenses preferred but not required at this time.
- Leadership skills, with steadfast resolve and personal integrity.
- Understanding of advanced business planning and regulatory issues.
- A solid grasp of data analysis and performance metrics.
- Be able to diagnose problems quickly and have foresight into potential issues.
Regulatory and Rules Supervision.
- Maintain and oversight of all required Licensing and Certificates before deadline due dates.
- HACCP – supports Policy and procedures to be in compliance.
- Attends HACCP training and PCQI training.
- MN State Grain Regulatory rules in compliance.
- MN DOT – supportive role.
- MN Weights and Measures.
- OSHA supportive role.
- MN Feed Regulatory supportive role.
- Comply with what is expected from FLM Purina role.
Safety and Maintenance.
- Responsible for Regulatory & Compliance requirements of grain division and supportive role in the company.
- Attend Safety and Regulatory meetings to keep current.
- Coordinates with GM/CEO to be certain that company safety procedures and recommendations are followed.
- Uphold all company policies.
- Perform duties as requested by GM/CEO.
- Keep all personal accounts current.

Maintenance and Mill – Project Assistant
REPORTS TO: General Manager, Maintenance Manager, and/or Mill leads.

Summary of the Job:
Warehouse, Mill, Grain Handling, Trucking Operations, Driving and major project assignments- Maintain in an efficient manner that will enhance profitability and customer satisfaction. Job Responsibilities include; preventive maintenance of facilities and rolling stock, over-all repairs, keeping equipment and truck maintenance logs, project repair bids, training staff to properly operate rolling stock and equipment and completing an annual budget for overall maintenance and major project work.
Essential Functions/Principal Accountabilities of the Maintenance Supervisor-Project Assistant
- Feed Mill, Grain Handling, Bagging Operations and warehouse maintenance
- Must learn all the production process.
- Must follow all the Safety rules and complete Safety Training.
- Completes inspection of boiler, steam pipes, water system. Completes chemical tests on water to maintain within correct parameters. Daily communication with mill manufacturing staff to monitor and adjust equipment. Completes general repairs as needed to maintain feed mill equipment
- Responsible for monthly blow down of all equipment in basement, mixing area and hammer Mill room.
- Completes regular inspection of mill equipment and maintains checklist logs
- Inspects pellet mill dies and communicates with operators on needed adjustments
- Order parts as needed for general mill repairs. Preventative Maintenance- visual inspections on daily basis to prevent major breakdowns. Maintains inventory of replacement consumable parts for mill equipment physical and electronically. Reviews repairs bills with General Manager on major repairs
- Responsible for direct supervision of maintenance assistant
- Delivery and Pickup
- Deliver product to and pick-up product from specified locations.
- Develop and maintain an efficient routing system and expedite each delivery in a timely manner as directed
- Ensure sales tickets are made out prior to loading or delivery
- Develop and maintain an organized and efficient loading and unloading system
- Assist customers with unloading and loading
- Verify all items listed on the work order or sales ticket are loaded and delivered
- Provide the customer with an accurate sales ticket and collect payment if needed
- Communicate safe storage and handling procedures to customers
- Truck Maintenance
- Daily communication with drivers to maintain equipment
- Monitors truck maintenance logs to ensure trucks are properly maintained.
- Completes feed body repairs, tire changes and minor repairs in general
- D.O.T. related needed repairs and maintenance scheduling
- Reports, -informs General Manager of major truck repairs required
- Maintains Inventory of replacement consumable parts for trucks
- Provides input to General Manager on replacements of or additions to truck fleet
- Provides Input to General Manager on trucks repairs for annual budget
- Project Assistant- Major facility repairs and renovation
- Identify and prioritize major needed facility repairs and visit with Supervisor.
- Monitor on-going construction projects to keep on schedule in Supervisors absence.
- Bio-Security – Supports and aids in compliance
- All manufactured feeds will be traceable from the ingredient source to the farm.
- Specific Bio-Security proto-calls will be followed in manufacturing and delivery
- Follows all Bio-Security measures
- All Record keeping and Reporting requirements will be followed
- Inform your supervisor of any concerns or discrepancies in your reports
- Immediately inform your supervisor of any problem or deviation from the normal manufacturing, receiving, load out and delivery process

Required Qualifications, Experience & Knowledge (Minimum level of formal education required for competent performance of the technical duties; previous experience requirements; personal competencies & characteristics deemed necessary for success in the position:
- Education:
- A high school education or GED equivalent; 2nd C Boiler license required
- Previous Experience:
- A minimum of 2 yrs. related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to do the job.
